Farewell, My Friend

Tammy was my most cherished friend, a rare treasure from the Lord. I always thanked Him for blessing me with a sister without the normal sibling rivalry. God is so good! We have been through so much together….our engagements, weddings, babies, parenting, serious illnesses and both of us having cancer at different times. She was my prayer partner, confidant and kindred spirit. She always overlooked my shortcomings and encouraged me in the Lord.

Tammy lived what she believed. John 13:34-35 says, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” She loved the Lord wholeheartedly and because of that she loved everyone the Lord brought her way completely. She selflessly gave of her time and resources whether books, CD’s, DVD’s or even her spare room to anyone in need of encouragement in the Lord.

John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends.” Ten years ago I laid in a hospital where the doctors and nurses did not know if I was going to make it through the night. Even while she was stressed and freaking out over the situation she knew my heart’s desire for my children and was figuring out how to rearrange her schedule to include my children in their homeschool routine.

It was clearly her relationship with Jesus Christ and His hand and work in her life that she lived so fully and loved her family so deeply. When I think of Tammy and the life she lived Proverbs 31:25-31 comes to mind. “Strength and dignity are her clothing and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.’ Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.”

  1. WOW, was this so hard for my dear mother to write for Mrs. Watson’s funeral last Saturday! The Lord did truly bless her with a dear friend, and she really at times was like a mother to me! Both her daughter Katelyn and I are close friends (really as close as you can get!), and have known each other since we where born and I hope to still be an encouragement to her , and the rest of the family for years to come! Praise the Lord for special friendships like this one, and you trully do not know the hours you have left on this earth, but I hope to live all of my life to glorify God in EVERYTHING I do just like Mrs. Watson!

    Blessings in Him,

    Miss. Antoinette K.
